Hijos de Las Vegas

Thirty-seven million people visit Las Vegas every year. It is the city that promises to satisfy all desires, without any repercussions. They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? But what about the children who grow up there?

Synopsis of Hijos de Las Vegas

Children of Las Vegas, by award-winning author Timothy O’Grady, tells the story of ten such children: the son of a casino owner who gambled his fortune and died alone and broken; a woman whose partner kidnapped her five children and now, addicted to methamphetamines, lives in the tunnels in the shadow of the city’s bright lights… These are the stories of the children of croupiers and bartenders, of jugglers and dancers, of limousine drivers. Of the children who leave for school every day before their parents have come home. Of the children whose parents may never return.

Through short essays that tell the story and peculiarities of the gambling mecca, the portraits of the famous photographer Steve Pyke and ten real testimonies of some of the “children of Las Vegas”, O’Grady brings down the shining facade of the city to show us a reality that looks like no other.
