Moya Cannon

Moya Cannon is an Irish poet who has published five collections of poetry, the latest being Keats Lives (Carcanet Press, Manchester). The mountains, the sea and our primeval and eternal responses to the beauty of the threatened land are the source of inspiration for many of her poems. Archaeology and geology are also the doors to a deeper understanding of our mysterious relationship with the natural world and our past. Music, especially traditional Irish music, has always interested him and is a constant theme in his creation.
She has offered countless readings accompanied by musicians and singers, such as the harpist Kathleen Loughnane, the singers of traditional music Maıghréad and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaıll and the Con Tempo String Quartet of RTE. Moya has read her work in Ireland, Europe, North America, South America, Japan and India.
In recent years, the Argentine poet Jorge Fondebrider has translated a selection of his work into Spanish, the Brazilian poet Luci Collin into Portuguese and the poets Eric Giebel and Eva Bourke into German. She has received the Brendan Behan and O'Shaughnessy awards and was professor of the Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies at Villanova University in Philadelphia in 2011. She was the editor of Poetry Ireland Review and is a member of Aosdána, the institution for Irish creative artists. Carcanet Press will publish her Collected Poems in 2019.
