Alexander McCall Smith
Alexander McCall Smith was born in Zimbabwe and studied both there and in Scotland. For many years he was a professor at the University of Edinburgh, and as such returned to Africa to work in Botswana and Swaziland. In 2005 he gave up his academic career to devote himself to writing. He has published more than sixty books, including the series The First Women's Detective Agency, in which its protagonist, Mma Ramotswe, solves amusing cases to the delight of millions of readers around the world. Alexander McCall Smith is married and has two daughters. He lives with his wife in Edinburgh, where he plays in an amateur orchestra, The Really Terrible Orchestra, which he founded with his wife.
